Treating Sinus problems with acupuncture

Usually sinus problems will occur due to allergies which are most likely felt during spring and autumn, when more pollen is in the air, or as a symptom of colds and flu.

When sinus congestion can be controlled by removing the allergen obviously this is a simple remedy, however it is not always that easy. For instance upper neck muscular tension can cause nervous irritation to the facial nerves that enervate your sinuses, or you may work in a dry, dusty atmosphere that is hard to change.

Fortunately acupuncture can be used with confidence to treat most sinus problems whether they are acute or chronic. Often sinus congestion is accompanied by asthma. Or you might not be breathing as deeply as you should be. Correct posture helps position our neck and upper back in such a way that prompts easier breathing and better oxygen saturation in your blood.

If you get no regular cardio-vascular exercise, your breathing can get lazy. Being under constant stress also promotes shallow breathing which is not ideal.

On a deeper level, Chinese Acupuncture considers that unresolved or unexpressed grief can also adversely affect your sinuses and breathing, for instance people have been known to become asthmatic after a tragedy has effected them.

Most of the water that leaves your body you breath out, the moisture on the lining of your airways also helps to filter particles out of the air, so your water intake is also important for healthy airways and nasal passages.

If you are a smoker or spend time in a smoky atmosphere, this can affect your sinuses. Acupuncture can help either by helping you to stop smoking or help with the sinus congestion.
