David Sparavec (Osteopath) completed a Masters degree in Applied Science. His topic of research was lumbar disc herniation (or "slipped disc" as it is commonly known) and its conservative management. His research places him at the forefront of the understanding of disc herniation and its management via non surgical methods.

Some of the key findings in his research were:

  1. It is estimated that 90% of all back surgeries are unnecessary
  2. Studies have demonstrated that people who undergo surgery are worse off after a 10 year follow up than people who had conservative non surgical management.
  3. Manipulative treatment for disc herniation is very effective and completely safe.
